Our History
Over 50 years of experience as a Cairns Optometry Service provider.
In 1974, founder, owner and namesake of Bruce Mellick Optometry, Bruce Mellick, completed his Optometry degree and returned to Cairns, recognising the difficulty in accessing advanced optometry services in the region and determined to lay the foundations for a specialist Optometry service.
Taking ownership of a premises on Abbott St, Bruce Mellick Optometry was soon offering the latest in Optometry treatments, general eyecare, and the best selection of frames anywhere in North Queensland.
In the 50 years since, there has been one change of address, a steady expansion of team members – including senior optometrist Alex Norris – and over 23,000 patients treated. Throughout the journey from then to now Bruce Mellick Optometry has remained committed to it’s values of putting the patient first, offering a variety of unique and eclectic frames, and treating each patient or customer as a unique individual who deserves quality eyecare and access to the world’s most fashionable eyewear.
