Lenses

Trust the expert optometrists at Bruce Mellick to find a lens solution that suits you and your lifestyle.

What type of lens is right for you?

Your choice of lens all depends on where you most need help with your vision.

After completing a comprehensive eye exam with Bruce Mellick Optometry, we'll consult with you to find out what the ideal lens solution for you should be. Lenses can be made lighter, thinner, and more scratch resistant than ever before. Being lighter and more durable than glass lenses, plastic lenses are some of the most advanced lenses in the world.

You can choose almost any frame to hold your lenses - all lenses are made to fit.

These lenses are used to correct many visual defects. They can be used for distance, near or continuous wear.

Glasses with a single vision lens can be worn to correct a sight issue such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and refractive errors which include astigmatism, presbyopia, hyperopia and myopia.

Single vision means the lenses only correct one vision issue, unlike bifocals or multifocals, which can correct multiple vision issues in one lens.

Progressive lenses offer the most advanced design and lense technology, aimed at giving you natural vision for all distances and corrections.

Progressive lenses are a type of lens which have no differentiating lines between the focal distances, unlike traditional bifocal lenses. Progressive lenses have three different levels of focal distances ranging from distance to near, allowing for much more usability than other lens types, and for more comfortable use over long periods of time.

Bifocal lenses are split into two sections; the upper part is traditionally for distance vision and the lower part for near vision.

As bifocal lenses only come with two available sections to help with your sight, a comprehensive eye exam is very important to ensure that there are no other issues with your eyes that also need to be addressed.

In trifocal lenses, the lens is split into three sections; the upper part is for distance, the middle area is for intermediate vision and the lower part for near vision.

Similar in concept to progressive lenses, trifocal lenses differ in that because there is a distinct ‘line’ between sections of the lens, the transition between two sections of the lens can feel harsher on your eyes.

Vocational lenses are perfect for computer use and work use. They will correct the focus of near and intermediate objects but distance vision may be blurred.

Like bifocal or progressive lenses, vocational lenses have two sections – however in the case of progressive lenses, the sections are designed to help with near and intermediate vision, with no section to assist with distance.

Anti-reflective lens coating

Anti-reflective (AR) Lens Coating can be applied to most lenses, creating clearer vision and making your eyes look more natural. The AR coating helps to repel water and dust making them much easier to clean and is of great visual benefit when driving at night.

We recommend that AR Lens Coating is applied to all of your glasses for added effectiveness and safety.
